What's next for crippled Spurs?

LONDON • Absolutely devastating. That was the reaction of former Tottenham forward Chris Waddle to the news Harry Kane would be ruled out for at least two months after suffering ankle ligament damage during the 1-0 Premier League loss to Manchester United over the weekend.
Spurs' prospects of winning a first trophy under manager Mauricio Pochettino this season suffered a significant blow on Tuesday when the club announced Kane - the league's joint-top scorer on 14 goals - was "expected to return to training in early March".
"Following preliminary assessments, we can confirm that @HKane has damaged ligaments in his left ankle," an official Spurs tweet read. "He will continue to be monitored by our medical staff as he commences rehabilitation."
The England captain tweeted in response that while "injuries are part of the game, no one will be working harder to get back fit".
The talismanic striker could possibly miss 12 matches, including a potential League Cup final, both legs of their Champions League last-16 tie against Borussia Dortmund, and seven league games, as Spurs strive to keep up with leaders Liverpool and Manchester City.
The 25-year-old is no stranger to ankle problems, having endured time on the sidelines in the last three years and missing seven weeks in 2016 in what was his most significant spell out.
However, with Tottenham 1-0 up in the first leg of their League Cup semi-final against Chelsea, his absence this time is untimely.
Pochettino, who has yet to deliver silverware since joining the club in 2014, is already without Son Heung-min - potentially until Feb 1 - while he plays for South Korea at the Asian Cup, and he has ruled out reintroducing out-of-favour Vincent Janssen to the first team.
That leaves Lucas Moura, who should return at Fulham on Sunday after knee trouble, and Fernando Llorente - who has in effect been available for transfer and has been the subject of interest from Barcelona - as his strike options for the foreseeable future.
The club had not anticipated entering the market this month and it remains to be seen if that policy shifts in the wake of Kane's injury.
Waddle told BBC Radio 5 Live it was now imperative for Spurs to bolster their front line in the transfer window and prevent their season from petering out.
He said: "I'm sure they're looking around Europe. Could they get someone on loan to tick them over until the end of the season?"
However, The Mirror claimed that Spurs could instead splash the cash with Bournemouth's Callum Wilson mooted as a possibility.
While the Cherries have reportedly slapped a £75 million (S$130.6 million) asking price on the England forward to ward off any suitors, Sky Sports said Spurs have "admired" the 26-year-old for some time.
His nine league goals in 20 appearances this season have fired his club to mid-table safety and Sky Sports pundit Liam Rosenior felt Wilson would be the "perfect fit" to fill Kane's shoes.
The former Brighton defender added: "He is of a profile where he would be delighted to have the chance to play for a club like Spurs.
"He gives them the pace to run in behind. I wouldn't be surprised if they put a marker down, and show they want to keep Pochettino and build for the future."

Football: Guardiola coy over quadruple bid after City reach FA Cup final

LONDON (AFP) - Pep Guardiola claimed he still doesn't believe Manchester City can win the quadruple after his side reached the FA Cup final with a 1-0 win over Brighton on Saturday (April 6).
Guardiola's men were well below their best in the Wembley semi-final, but Gabriel Jesus's early goal got the job done.
City will play Watford or Wolves in the final on May 18, but before then they hope to have retained the Premier League title and reached the Champions League final.
Currently two points behind leaders Liverpool with a game in hand in the Premier League, City go to Tottenham for the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals on Tuesday.
Having already won the League Cup, an unprecedented clean-sweep of all four major trophies is within touching distance, but City manager Guardiola refuses to talk up his team's chances.
"My opinion is that nobody has done it (won the quadruple), so why can we do it?," he said.
"It is almost impossible to achieve everything, that is the truth."

City laboured to kill off Premier League strugglers Brighton in a hard-fought semi-final lacking many thrills.
Guardiola praised Brighton's resilience and admitted he was relieved to get the win.
"It was a semi-final, Brighton are an incredible defensive team, we knew that set-pieces were huge, massive. We conceded too many but only one dangerous situation. We are in the final, we are there," he said.
City defender Kyle Walker came off at half-time after suffering a first-half knock.
Walker was also fortunate to escape with a yellow card after a VAR review of a 32nd-minute incident when the England star reacted to a challenge from Alireza Jahanbakhsh by aiming his head at the Brighton player.
"I didn't see the Kyle Walker incident," Guardiola said.
"We are losing players every game but still we will try to do it.
"I am happy to be in the final. We extend our season by one more week and we are happy for that."
Brighton boss Chris Hughton was adamant Walker should have been sent off.
"I have seen it a few times and my opinion is it is a red card," he said.
"We ask for players to be honest and with Alireza, if he goes down clutching his head it would have been a different outcome. There is enough movement for it to be a red card."

Sarri condemns abuse of Sterling as 'disgusting'
LONDON • Maurizio Sarri has described the alleged racist abuse of Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling by Chelsea fans as "disgusting" and condemned discrimination in any form in his first public comments on the incident.
Chelsea said on Monday that they had banned four supporters from their matches pending a police investigation into the incident which occurred during City's 2-0 Premier League defeat at Stamford Bridge last Saturday.
"First of all, I want to say that I condemn any form of discrimination, of course. I think I have to stop here," the Chelsea manager told reporters ahead of this morning's (Singapore time) Europa League match against Vidi in Budapest.
"Because there is an investigation, I think it's better not to say something more. Of course, my opinion is that I condemn every sort of discrimination. It was disgusting. You know very well my opinion, the opinion of the club, but now we have to go on."
Sterling posted a statement on Instagram last Sunday in which he said newspapers were fuelling racism in football due to their negative portrayal of black players, compared to their white counterparts.
His comments were echoed by the Professional Footballers' Association and former players.
One of the banned Chelsea supporters admitted directing abuse at Sterling but said the vitriol was "not racist in nature".
Sterling's England teammate Ruben Loftus-Cheek said a strong response was needed to rid the sport of the problem.
He said: "He (Sterling) was right to say what he said. I don't think it should be in the game or anywhere.
"Him speaking out was the right thing. If it happened to me, I would do the same."

Football: Qatar's beIN to 'launch' legal action against AFC

Football: Qatar's beIN to 'launch' legal action against AFC

DOHA (AFP) - Qatari broadcaster beIN Sports on Tuesday (March 12) threatened legal action against the Asian Football Confederation, alleging the governing body had "surrendered" to Saudi Arabia in a new row over Gulf broadcasting rights.
Earlier on Tuesday, the AFC announced it would live-stream free matches featuring Saudi clubs in the region's premier club competition, the Champions League.
BeIN hold the rights to air competition matches.
The latest flashpoint comes amid a long-running row between the two countries over sports broadcasting, which has seen Qatar accuse Saudi of facilitating "industrial-scale" piracy of its programmes through a channel called "beoutQ", a claim Riyadh denies.
It also comes amid an ongoing bitter diplomatic Gulf crisis which has seen Qatar boycotted for the past 21 months by neighbouring former allies including Saudi Arabia.
"In response to the extraordinary announcement by the AFC... beIN is set to launch a major international legal dispute against the Confederation for material breach of its multi-million dollar broadcast agreement." beIN added the move was "clearly political".
The Doha-based sports broadcasting giant has held a contract with the AFC since 2013 to cover Champions League games as well as the Asian Cup tournament.
BeIN is thought to spend around US$38 million (S$51.5 million) a year on the contract, which is up for renewal in 2020.
In a statement, the AFC said it had made the move to "protect the rights of its commercial and broadcast partners".
Matches will be live-streamed on geo-blocked digital channels including Facebook Live, added the AFC.
A statement from the Saudi Press Agency said the AFC, in a letter to the Saudi Arabian Football Federation, was cancelling "the monopoly of beIN sports channels".
The news agency said the decision was based on "serious legal and systematic violations" committed by beIN.
This will not be the first legal action threatened by beIN.
Last October it launched a US$1-billion compensation claim against Saudi broadcasters over the issue of piracy.
The latest row comes just weeks before the AFC elects its new president.
One of the three candidates is Qatar's Saoud al-Mohannadi.

LONDON (THE GUARDIAN, AFP) - Chelsea face the partial closure of Stamford Bridge in the Europa League after Uefa opened disciplinary proceedings over allegations that their travelling supporters engaged in racist chanting during the draw at Vidi last month.
The European football governing body announced on Tuesday (Jan 15) that, based on the report submitted by its ethics and disciplinary inspector who had investigated incidents at the group-stage fixture in Budapest, proceedings had been instigated against Chelsea.
Uefa's control, ethics and disciplinary body will deal with the case at its next meeting, on Feb 28.
Its regulations state that, if supporters are found guilty of behaviour "that insults the human dignity of a person or group of persons on whatever grounds, including skin colour, race, religion or ethnic origin", the minimum punishment is the partial closure of their home stadium in a subsequent fixture.
Chelsea host the second leg of their round-of-32 tie with the Swedish club, Malmo, on Feb 21, meaning any sanction would be implemented either in the last 16 or, if they have been eliminated, when the London club next feature in the competition.
This would be Chelsea's first offence, and a second incident would see them forced to play a match behind closed doors.
The club publicly condemned the chants - an anti-Tottenham Hotspur (who have a large Jewish fan base) song which was heard in the opening three minutes - in the immediate aftermath of the 2-2 draw at the Groupama Arena.
They have endeavoured to identify those in the 1,273 away support involved with a view to imposing bans from Stamford Bridge, as well as offering anyone found guilty the chance to enter an educational programme in a bid to learn why the chant is so offensive.
The club, whose owner Roman Abramovich is Jewish, launched its Say No to Antisemitism campaign a year ago to raise awareness and educate about anti-semitism in football.
The chairman, Bruce Buck, has since published an open letter to supporters condemning the actions of a "mindless" minority and vowing not to rest "until we have eliminated all forms of discrimination from our club", adding: "If you do not share these values, this is not the club for you."
Chelsea have already been dogged by accusations of fan racism in recent weeks, with four supporters banned pending an investigation into alleged racist insults directed at Raheem Sterling during the Blues' 2-0 win over English Premier League champions Manchester City in early December.
Chelsea coach Maurizio Sarri said the club were in a "fight against stupid people" following further allegations of racism by supporters in the away end during his side's 2-1 win at Watford on Boxing Day.

Home United v Young Lions
Bishan Stadium, 5.30pm

They had a taste of blood, and now the Young Lions want more.
Tipped by many to struggle in the Singapore Premier League (SPL) this season, Fandi Ahmad's charges pulled off a massive upset last week when they beat a Hougang United team boasting several senior national players 2-1.
The young guns, lying seventh in the nine-team table, are hoping to build on the victory when they take on sixth-placed and SPL pre-season title hopefuls Home United today at the Bishan Stadium.
Striker Saifullah Akbar, who scored the winning goal against Hougang, said he and many of his teammates benefited from a three-week overseas stint with the national Under-22 team, also coached by Fandi.
Fifteen Young Lions players were among the 24-strong U-22 squad that went on a two-week training camp in Shizuoka, Japan, before playing qualification matches in Mongolia for next year's AFC Under-23 Championship.
Singapore failed to progress to next year's finals after finishing second in their group. They had drawn 1-1 with Hong Kong and North Korea and beaten Mongolia 3-1.
Saifullah, 20, said: "In Japan and Mongolia, we played against opponents who were physically, tactically and technically stronger.
"Doing well on both trips gave us the belief we could match the top SPL teams when we returned here. And that has been key - belief."
Young Lions skipper Joshua Pereira added: "In Japan, we had double training sessions every day, and did not have outside distractions we have back in Singapore like school, work or National Service.
"The win against Hougang felt exceptional, but we know we have to keep our feet on the ground and try to do it again in our next game against Home."
Fandi, 56, refused to get carried away by the win over Hougang - in pre-season, he had simply targeted avoiding the wooden spoon - but added that he was pleased with the competition among his players.
He said: "Everyone wants a place in the team, and everyone's fighting for it.
"The SEA Games (in the Philippines from Nov 30-Dec 11) is the next big target and the players are all eager to prove themselves."
Despite his team's fine form, Fandi said they will start today's match as the underdogs.
Home have kept three straight clean sheets and also defeated Laotian champions Lao Toyota 1-0 in the AFC Cup on Tuesday.
But Home coach Saswadimata Dasuki is fretting over his attack.
Last season's 13-goal forward Shahril Ishak and Australian midfielder Isaka Cernak are sidelined with ankle injuries while South Korean midfielder Song Ui-yong, with 10 goals last campaign, is struggling with a groin problem.
Saswadimata said he was impressed by the Young Lions, noting: "They were very disciplined and very organised, both defensively and going forward.
"They are young, but they compensate by working really hard for each other and being organised.
"We will find it tough to break the Young Lions down."

Football: Guardiola places faith in Jesus with Aguero injured

MANCHESTER, United Kingdom (AFP) - Manchester City will be without injured leading scorer Sergio Aguero as they try to regain the advantage in the Premier League title race against struggling Cardiff on Wednesday (April 3).
A thigh injury means the Premier League's leading marksman - he has 19 goals to his name - will sit it out with Brazil star Gabriel Jesus taking his place.
Victory over a side they thrashed 5-0 in the away fixture earlier this season would see City leapfrog Liverpool to lead the title race by a point, with both having played the same number of games.
City manager Pep Guardiola admitted Aguero faces a race to be fit for the FA Cup semi-final with Brighton on Saturday and the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final away to Tottenham next Tuesday.
"Tomorrow (Wednesday) Sergio is not able to play," said Guardiola. "He didn't train the last two days.
"Hopefully, he can on Saturday or next Tuesday. We will see his evolution in the next few days."
Guardiola, whose side is bidding for a historic quadruple in winning the Premier League, the FA Cup and the Champions League to add to their League Cup success already this term, has faith in Jesus being able to fill in for Aguero.
"Gabriel is ready," said Guardiola.
"He is having a good season and it is not always easy to play in this club as a striker in the same position as Sergio.
"He is fighting against one legend and an incredible top player in his best season since we have been at the club.
"When Gabriel played, he played well. Tomorrow he is going to help us and fight and score goals and create space for others."
City might still have been top but for a late error by France's World Cup-winning captain Hugo Lloris gifting Liverpool all three points on Sunday in a 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur.
"When you see that, you say 'Ah s**t'," he said.
"But after five or ten minutes, you think it's a nice but terrible challenge.
"Nobody said it would be easy. Nobody. We knew it and I knew it.
"Everybody is excited for what we are going to live in the next weeks.
"Let's beat Cardiff for the main target to go back top of the league with six games left.
"After that we live again, Wembley, to achieve the one final (FA Cup) I never experienced in my life in the oldest trophy, and after that the Champions League."

Signs of Manchester United revival in loss to City: Wes Brown

Signs of Manchester United revival in loss to City: Wes Brown

Alarm bells may have rung at Old Trafford after Manchester United's 2-0 derby defeat on Wednesday, with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reportedly summoned to a crisis meeting with executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward the next day.
But former United defender Wes Brown saw a glimmer of hope, one that could spark a reversal of fortunes and hopefully propel the Red Devils to a top-four finish and Champions League qualification.
"Manchester City have been the best team in the league over the last two years and they could not ease up on any games as well, but I felt we did well in the first half," said the 39-year-old.
"We kept the ball well, pressed a bit... then City came out in the second half and scored two goals.
"I am sure goalkeeper David (de Gea) will be disappointed, especially with the second goal, but mistakes happen."
Sixth-placed United face a must-win three-game run-in, beginning with Chelsea tonight. The Blues are fourth with a three-point cushion while Arsenal, in fifth, have two more points.
"The fourth spot is still alive, I reckon," added Brown, who will be watching the game with fans at the Clarke Quay Fountain Square during the Football Moments event, presented by Chang Beer and organised by Singtel Media.

MASS EXODUS UNLIKELY
It's not like you can get rid of seven or eight players and bring in the same number of top-quality players in one summer. It'll take a period of time.
WES BROWN, former Manchester United defender, on the speculation over some players' futures.

"We've to win all our games and hope there's a fall elsewhere. It's all about creating our own chances, and getting a bit of luck on our side."
All three teams have blown hot and cold at the tail end of the season. Chelsea have won just three of their last seven games while Arsenal have lost three of their last four.
United have lost four of their last six, a dip in form which coincided with Solskjaer being made permanent manager on March 28.
Before that, United were unbeaten in 11 games in all competitions under the Norwegian, who took over after Jose Mourinho's sacking last December.
Asked what he felt had gone wrong, Brown, who played alongside Solskjaer in United's 1999 Treble-winning side, said: "I wish I could tell you. There's obviously been a drop in confidence somewhere, but I know from my playing days that when that happens, you just have to work harder as a team and pull it out from somewhere."
The former England man added that, regardless of whether United qualify for next season's Champions League, having the right players at the club will be crucial.
There has been speculation over the future of goalkeeper de Gea, record signing Paul Pogba and misfiring striker Romelu Lukaku, among others, in recent weeks.
Said Brown: "It's not like you can get rid of seven or eight players and bring in the same number of top-quality players in one summer. It'll take a period of time.
"But I'm sure Ole has got players in mind he wants to sign, and I'm sure he wants them in early. He knows what he needs... after (the 4-0 loss at) Everton, he talked about wanting more running, wanting people to be fitter.
"Ole's watching and seeing every day in training, and he understands who has been giving his all and who hasn't."

Key battles

Matteo Guendouzi v Paul Pogba
Guendouzi may have edged ahead of Lucas Torreira for a spot in Unai Emery's strongest side but, with the Uruguayan suspended, he will have to start. His energy could make him well suited to the task of tracking his fellow Frenchman Pogba, but United's game plan on their last visit also revolved around Jesse Lingard, who is out injured.
Alexandre Lacazette v Chris Smalling
Smalling produced arguably the performance of his life in Paris on Wednesday. After acquitting himself well against one French striker in Kylian Mbappe, he faces another in Lacazette, who should be fresher after being suspended in the Europa League. Lacazette's finishing is such that he has 12 goals from just 25 shots on target.
Laurent Koscielny v Romelu Lukaku
Lukaku has become the first United player since Cristiano Ronaldo in 2006 to register three successive braces. He mustered another kind of double on United's last trip to Arsenal: he set up two goals. He is relishing partnering Marcus Rashford, but Koscielny combined well with Sokratis Papastathopoulos against Tottenham.

Football: Benzema saves Real Madrid blushes with late Huesca winner

MADRID (AFP) - Karim Benzema stopped Real Madrid's underwhelming La Liga season going from bad to worse on Sunday (March 31) after firing a last-minute winner to hand the European champions a barely-deserved 3-2 winner over bottom club Huesca.
Humbled by Ajax in the Champions League and dumped out of the Copa Del Rey by deadly rivals Barca, third-placed Real showed little signs of improvement in Zinedine Zidane's second game in charge but Benzema struck with a fine curling finish the to snatch the three points.
Real move to within two points of second-placed Atletico Madrid, who hammered Champions League hopefuls Alaves 4-0 on Saturday in a match that saw Diego Costa score for the first time since November.
However Real still lag 12 points behind leaders Barcelona, who are 10 clear of Atletico and heavy favourites to retain their La Liga after Lionel Messi fired them to their sixth league win on the bounce, 2-0 at home to local rivals Espanyol on Saturday, with a brace that took the Argentine to 31 league goals this season.
Zidane's son Luca was given his second ever start between the sticks for Real but got off to the worst possible start, picking the ball out of his own net within three minutes after Cucho Hernandez lashed home Ezequiel Avila low cross.
Isco levelled the scores in the 25th minute when he tapped home a Brahim Diaz cross after Benzema's low shot was well saved, but it was the away side - playing their first ever La Liga game at the Madrid's Santiago Bernabeu stadium - who went closer going into the break ahead.
Zidane junior had to be alert to stop Damian Musto from glancing home a header nine minutes before the break, while Avila punched the ground in frustration in first half stoppage time after flashing a power shot over from the edge of the box.

Heartbroken Huesca

Real continued to disappoint in the second half but took the lead just after the hour mark thanks to Dani Ceballos, who bundled home the second after Gareth Bale's beautiful cross was headed back across goal by Benzema.
Bale then missed a glorious opportunity to put the game beyond Huesca when he somehow put Alvaro Odriozola's low cross over the bar from just yards out.
Huesca pounced on that awful miss to draw level when Xabier Etxeita powered home Moi Gomez's cross from a short corner.
However Benzema was on hand to break Huesca hearts with his fine finish, which gives Zidane two wins from his first two matches back in charge.
Earlier Valencia maintained their hopes of a place in next season's Champions League after Daniel Parejo's penalty on the stroke of half-time gave them a vital 1-0 victory at Sevilla.
Parejo's spot-kick, which came after Ever Banega brought down Jose Gaya, extended Valencia's unbeaten run to nine matches and moves them up to sixth, level on 43 points with Sevilla and just three back from the final Champions League spot.
That place is occupied by Getafe, who fell 2-0 at home to mid-table Leganes on Saturday and have to play the league's top three and Sevilla in their final nine games.
Despite a slightly simpler league fixture list Marcelino's Valencia however have an all-Spanish Europa League quarter-final tie with Villarreal to contend with, as well as the Copa Del Rey final against Barcelona between now and the end of the season.

Football: Arsenal boss Emery hints at potential departures, concedes Chelsea 'deserved to win' Europa League final

BAKU (REUTERS) - Some players may need to leave Arsenal as he continues his bid to rebuild the squad, said manager Unai Emery after his men were thrashed 4-1 by Chelsea in the Europa League final on Wednesday (May 29).
Second-half goals from Olivier Giroud, Pedro and a double from Eden Hazard ensured Arsenal failed to win their fourth successive European final.
Emery said his team, who finished fifth in the Premier League, were still very much in a "process" and he would evaluate his options over the summer.
"We need to speak with the club, speak with the players, and do one step more in our way," he said.
"But our idea is to continue carrying on improving with the young players who arrived last year.
"Maybe some players need to leave, to take a new way. We are closer to the other teams. At the moment it's not enough, but we can continue with the same team next year.
"Other players will come in and help us get better in our capacity."

The defeat means Arsenal failed to earn a spot in next season's Champions League for the third successive season, but Emery said another Europa League campaign would not put off potential targets joining the club.
"I think Arsenal is a big name in the football world, and a lot of players want to play here," he added.
"The transfers, I don't know for next year. But the club is working to improve and to take all we need to go our way.
"Also we have a lot of players with the possibility to improve."
Emery, however, conceded that Chelsea had deserved the victory.
"We tried to stay in the match but their second goal made it difficult for us," he added. "It was going better for them and when we wanted to do something, we couldn't find what we needed to score. They deserved to win."

Football: Jurgen Klopp keen to fulfil title vow

LONDON • To fulfil his promise of delivering a title to Liverpool inside four years, Jurgen Klopp would have to deliver the Premier League or Champions League trophy this season.
His team have come close thrice to the vow that the German made at his unveiling as Reds manager in October 2015, declaring: "If we sit here in four years, we win one title."
After losing finals in the 2016 League Cup and Europa League, and the 2018 Champions League, many are sensing Klopp will finally meet the deadline, with two golden opportunities for silverware.
Liverpool (85 points), who will take on Barcelona in the Champions League semi-finals, can retake the Premier League lead from Manchester City (86) with a win at Cardiff today.
Ahead of their trip to Wales, Klopp admitted his four-year promise had been regularly brought up as a topic of discussion of late.
Despite being reluctant to set any more time frames for success, he believes his seven-year deal should be sufficient to complete his restoration job at Anfield as Liverpool seek to return to the top of the perch.
At his pre-match media conference, he said: "It should be enough time. A lot of people have reminded me, when I came here and signed a four-year contract, that (I said) in four years, we probably would have won something.

GETTING THERE
The position we are now in, I am really happy with. Not that it is the final position we want to be, but the awareness from outside of the club of where we are, second time (in a row) in the Champions League semi-finals, that is really special.
JURGEN KLOPP, Liverpool manager, on the progress the club have made this season.

"It didn't happen yet. Both sides, the club and myself, have a wonderful commitment that we really try everything to make the club as successful as possible. How long it will take I have no clue.
"The position we are now in, I am really happy with. Not that it is the final position we want to be, but the awareness from outside of the club of where we are, second time (in a row) in the Champions League semi-finals, that is really special.
"(But) it is not where we want to be at the end. We want to improve."
A trophy will certainly cap his team's improvement this campaign and the Reds boss is confident his team have the stamina to compete on both fronts, with four league games left and two in Europe, which will extend to three, should they make the June 1 final in Madrid.
Declaring his players are "not tired", he said: "We are still in the Champions League and title race. Because of another very strong team (Man City) in the Premier League, we have to win all our games, and the Champions League is like this anyway.
"Nothing has changed since July - we are in it, and now we want to win it. Barcelona? Before then, it is Cardiff and Huddersfield, and that's exactly the same importance to us than the game after that."
With Cardiff aiming to build on last Tuesday's victory over relegation rivals Brighton, Klopp is wary of underestimating the Bluebirds.
Warning his players "to be careful of counter-attacks and each set piece will be a scoring opportunity for Cardiff", the German added: "They are now in a good moment. Lots thought they were done a couple of weeks ago."

Football: Last-gasp Ritchie strike as Newcastle draw at Bournemouth

BOURNEMOUTH, England (REUTERS) - Matt Ritchie's last-gasp equaliser earned Newcastle United a point at his former club Bournemouth in a thrilling 2-2 draw at the Vitality Stadium in the Premier League on Saturday (March 16).
On a blustery day on the south coast, Newcastle coped best with the conditions early on, taking the lead in first-half stoppage time when Salomon Rondon curled a sublime free kick into the net.
Their lead did not last long, though, as Josh King converted from the penalty spot three minutes into the second half to equalise, after Nathan Ake had been fouled in the penalty area.
The chances kept coming after the break, with Ritchie almost getting on the end of a low Rondon cross, before Paul Dummett brilliantly cleared off the line at the other end to keep Bournemouth at bay.
However, the pressure from the home side told, as King swept home Dominic Solanke's pass to turn the match on its head nine minutes from time. His double took King's season tally to 11 in all competitions.
Newcastle were not to be denied, though, as former Bournemouth player Ritchie's half-volley in stoppage time denied the hosts victory as Newcastle pulled further clear of the relegation zone in 13th, while Bournemouth climbed to 11th.
"It's a strange feeling as I owe so much to this club and then I wheeled away and realised I have a lot of respect for this club," Ritchie said.
"It shows good spirit from us and we can really build on that."
With 18th-placed Cardiff not in action this weekend, Newcastle had the chance to increase the gap between them and the relegation zone and, after escaping when King hit the post early on, they took the lead through Rondon.
After Federico Fernandez had fouled Ake in the box, King levelled things up, with the momentum staying with the Bournemouth in the aftermath.
Jefferson Lerma should have done better from close range, before Dummett's heroics denied Bournemouth again, but the second came through a familiar source with King finishing well.
Ritchie, though had the final say on a ground he is familiar with, smashing the last-gasp strike into the net to secure what could be a crucial point for Newcastle.
"We thought we'd done enough to win...but Matt Ritchie's left foot is deadly and he showed it today," Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe said.
